Behavior
Class Behavior Management
The word RECESS is spelled out on the board. If the class misbehaves or is especially loud, I remove a letter. Each letter removed means 3 minutes of cool down time during recess. The class is able to earn back any lost letters if their behavior improves significantly.
Individual Behavior Management
There is a chart in class where the students can clip up or down depending on their behavior. Every day, Everyone starts on Green or "Ready to Learn." If a student misbehaves, they will clip down to "Reminder." There are no consequences at this level. They will just receive a friendly reminder about the class rules. If the students continues to misbehave, they will clip down to "Logical Consequence." Their infraction will determine the consequence. For example, if a student misbehaves during a group assignment, the student will be told to work by themselves and will have to write a letter of apology to the group. The next clip down is "Contact Home." I will notify the parent via email, phone, or conference about the student's behavior.

Class Jobs
Each student in class will have a job that will help maintain flow and organization throughout the day. Every week, the jobs rotate.
Bathroom
There are two (2) bathroom passes. Students sign a log with the time and take a pass. If all the passes are taken, there is a waitlist on the board. Students will sign and wait for a pass to return. Students are allowed to use the bathroom 1-2 times during my class. Of course, I will always make exceptions if it's an emergency.
Water
The student should bring a water bottle to class to minimize distractions. They'll be allowed to refill it once during my class time.
Class Library
Students can take books home from my library. They write their name on the index card found in the book. That helps me keep track of who has my book. If they lose my book, I ask that they replace it.
AR (Accelerated Reader)
Please refer to the AR Contract for important information and due dates. It is important to read every night and complete the AR quizzes on those books. The student must show me the book before they take the quiz. At the end of each quarter, the students who meet the goal earn a week long lunch bunch in my class. Students love lunch bunch. During this time, they get to be with their friends who also made the AR goal, as well as watch movies, play games, and eat any goodies parents volunteer to bring (i.e. ice cream, cookies, chips). Students and parents can log on to the Home Connect to check their status.
Reading Plus
Reading Plus is due every Sunday before midnight. It's three (3) SeeReaders and three (3) ReadArounds. Please do not wait until Sunday to complete the assignments. Students are allowed to use my computers before school to complete Reading Plus. I'm in my room by 7:45AM. Please be aware that completed assignments are tracked by the green checkmark seen on the student dashboard. The Reading Plus goal for the year is 100 SeeReaders (only SeeReaders with 80% or higher comprehension count). The students will shade a bar graph in class to help keep track of their progress. When the student reaches this goal, they earn extra recess for a week. They have until the end of May 2018 to reach this goal.
Writing
There will be a lot of writing this year. The essays are completed in its entirety during class time. On occasion, if the student did not complete a certain step, he/she needs to complete that portion at home. The essays are peer reviewed and teacher reviewed. Sometimes I meet with students one on one to revise their essays.
